The Perfect Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

Valentine’s Day, a 24 hour period avoided like the plague by singletons around the globe. But I say forego the couple shenanigans and opt for a love day focused on you. Rather than being forced to show affection for your significant other, take a day to show gratitude for yourself and all your hard work. What could be better than an excuse to buy all the pink your heart desires and all the chocolate you crave? Don’t be the next victim on Desperation Day (February 13, created by Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother, Season 6) and catch up on some serious R&R instead. A perfect Valentine’s Day dedicated to you, yourself and your well-being is just around the corner if you follow the following steps!

  1. A great gift to yourself is a yoga session, stretch your soul and become in touch with every limb of your body. Although Hart House offers an incredible yoga class at 8am, it does tug on the money strings. If you, can’t stretch out $70, then Lululemon, located on Queen Street West, offers a free complimentary yoga class at 8pm.
  2. A great way to show yourself some love is indulging in a nice hot shower with an invigorating scrub or if you are lucky enough have access to a clean bathtub, soak in Lush bubbles with candles lining the room and a magazine by your side.
  3. In the mood for some more pampering? Treat yourself to a spa date with your besties while quenching your thirst with a fantastical beverage of cranginger-ale. Cozy Nails, located at 3288 Yonge Street, offers incredible packages for student friendly prices and a soothing experience.
  4. What would Valentines Day be without some good ole’ chocolate love? Future Bakery located in The Annex, can provide you with the most delicious chocolate raspberry cake you’ve ever tasted. However, if your taste buds don’t fancy cake, the Candy Shoppe is just across the street, beckoning you forth with the promise of sweets galore.
  5. Last but certainly not least, feast your eyes on the most drool-worthy specimens to hit the big screen. Cuddle up in bed with a glass of champagne, to celebrate you of course, or invite all your best girls over to squeal over the likes of Ryan Gosling, Hugh Grant and Mr. Big. What could be better than spending Valentines Day with Hollywood’s finest?

Whatever you choose, allow yourself to relish in temptation and dive headfirst into delectable goodies this Valentine’s Day.

Natalie has recently completed her second year at the University of Toronto with a double major in History and Ethics, Society, and Law. She is excited to bring Her Campus to U of T and seeing it expand its presence in Canada. She is also active in the school's Model United Nations circles and numerous organizations off campus and is best described as a political and pop culture junkie. Born and raised in Toronto, she is blindingly proud of everything the city has to offer including the best school in the country, no matter what Macleans says, and its sports teams, no matter how many times they may lose or miss the playoffs.
