Munch on Menchie’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

Just a few blocks from campus, on the corner of Bloor and Borden Street, is one of the best places to grab a quick snack before heading to your next class. This place is always jam-packed with people and open until the wee hours of the night.  Not to mention this place offers some of the healthiest, dairy and gluten-free, low carb, no sugar added, and kosher snacks. All the frozen yogurt and health fanatics will know what I’m talking about. Ever heard of Menchie’s?  Considered one of the top franchises from California, Menchie’s offers over 70 different flavours of frozen yogurt and toppings. In 2007, a couple decided to take their relationship to a whole new level by opening a frozen yogurt shop together. Danna and Adam Caldwell experienced great success with their first shop in Los Angeles. Menchie’s became popular extremely quickly due to the huge focus on customer experience. Now in 2011, Menchie’s has expanded to over 100 locations in 10 different countries, giving people around the world a chance to experience the wonder that is Menchie’s.

*We didn’t a chance to take any pictures ourselves, so here are some pictures from the Her Campus Pinkberry social!

But all those frozen yogurt flavours and toppings aren’t even the best part! What differentiates Menchie’s from all the other frozen yogurt franchises is the freedom to choose exactly how you want your serving to turn out. You get to choose how much you want, how many flavours to mix, and how high the toppings should pile. This gives you, the customer, the power to choose how much you pay since the price is determined by the weight of your mix. Each creation you make will be different since Menchie’s regularly alternates flavours and toppings.

As a loyal and frequent customer, I would like to give a few tips to all those first-timers out there!

  1. Bring out the inner artist in you. Don’t be afraid to mix Cake Batter with Boysenberry!  There are some really unique flavours such as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, Pumpkin, and Root Beer Float. If that isn’t your cup of tea, there are always classic flavours available.
  2. Use the unlimited sample feature to your advantage. I’m not telling you to get full off of free samples, but take enough so that you get a sense of the flavours offered.
  3. Give bobas a try! You may be wondering what a boba is- imagine a tapioca pearl jammed pack with fruit juice. They are an absolutely delicious addition to frozen yogurt,
  4. Get a mySmileage card. This loyalty card will prove useful once you spend $50 at Menchie’s as you will receive $5 value coupon. If you register online, you will receive 25 smiles (1 Smile is approximately 1 dollar) and a $5 birthday coupon!

Above all, relax. Menchie’s is a friendly, happy environment. Take a look at the wall of celebrities who’ve been seen eating Menchie’s or imagine what your next mix will be.  You definitely deserve to enjoy a break from all that studying.
