Midterm Makeup Must Haves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Toronto chapter.

It’s midterm/first essays of the year season and, as usual, we are all suffering from a lack of sleep and/or camping out inside Robarts. Naturally, makeup is one of the last things on our minds. However, there are a few simple products that can make all the difference between looking like you’re an extra from The Walking Dead and looking like you actually got some sleep in the past couple of days. Here are some beauty essentials to keep around this midterm season:

Tinted Moisturizer- moisturizing is a must for every Canadian collegiette, especially once the cool weather starts to settle in. So since you have to moisturize anyways, why not give yourself some extra coverage while you’re at it by using a tinted moisturizer? My pick: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

An all can do, no fail makeup palette- having all your eye shadows in one place will help simplify your morning routine. Make sure to choose a palette with safe, neutral colours that will allow you to put together a look quickly and without fear of smudging or fading becoming too obvious over the course of a long day. My pick: Urban Decay Naked Palette

Cream eye shadow- cream eye shadow is possibly the easiest product in the world to work with. While you can use these as a base for a more elaborate look, they can also be worn alone: a quick swipe of cream eye shadow will give you just enough colour to brighten up your eyes in the morning. My pick: Makeup Forever Aqua Creams in #16

Lip Stains- lip stains are low maintenance and long lasting- two qualities that are a must in any makeup product that we use during midterm season. Many companies also now have lip stains that are moisturizing to help prevent chapped lips. My pick: Tarte Lipsurgence Natural Lip Tints

A great base and top coat- save yourself the time it takes to do your nails and wait for them to dry by using a base and top coat that will prolong the life of your nail polish and prevent them from chipping as quickly. My pick: Revlon Top Speed Top Coat and Zoya Anchor Base Coat

Makeup Wipes- let’s face it: after hours in the library, the last thing we want to do is properly cleanse and tone our faces to get all our makeup off. This is where makeup wipes come in: they’re fast, they’re efficient and they do the job. My pick: Neutrogena makeup wipes.

Natalie has recently completed her second year at the University of Toronto with a double major in History and Ethics, Society, and Law. She is excited to bring Her Campus to U of T and seeing it expand its presence in Canada. She is also active in the school's Model United Nations circles and numerous organizations off campus and is best described as a political and pop culture junkie. Born and raised in Toronto, she is blindingly proud of everything the city has to offer including the best school in the country, no matter what Macleans says, and its sports teams, no matter how many times they may lose or miss the playoffs.
