Valentine’s Day Cheer All Year: Baking Recipes to Keep the Love Going

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Penn chapter.

Maybe last Tuesday, you had no time to bake a cute and yummy recipes for your Valentine. Maybe you had no Valentine at all. That doesn’t mean we can’t keep spreading the love, celebrate a few days late, or just practice for next year! Here are two super easy and delicious recipes that will look like you slaved away for hours in the kitchen. What could be better? Your boyfriend will love you even more!!

Picture yourself and your valentine in a neighborhood café in Paris sipping hot chocolate and eating warm pain au chocolat (otherwise known as chocolate croissants to us Americans). Well you can recreate this situation in your own room (sorry, you will have to give up the Eifel Tower part). The recipe could not be simpler. All you need is 1 tube of Pillsbury crescents and a 1 8-ounce bar of chocolate (whatever your preference) and it will make 8 croissants! Merely place a piece of chocolate into the center of the crescent dough and bake them according to the package directions until they are golden brown. This one can easily be remembered off the top of your head. The dough will bake and the gooey chocolate will melt and you will have made a delectable treat for you and your sweetheart.

The second recipe, peanut butter pretzel truffles, involves a few more ingredients, but is also pretty much effortless. If you are a peanut butter lover like myself and also love the consummate combination of salty and sweet, then this is the perfect dessert for you and your loved one. The ingredients include ½ a cup of chunky peanut butter, ½ cup of pretzels, crushed (will be around ¼ cup when crushed), 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal, ½ cup of chocolate chips (melted), sprinkles (optional for topping), and chopped peanuts (also optional for topping). Now for the directions. First, grab a medium bowl and mix the peanut butter, crushed pretzels, and the flaxseed until it is all combined. Then put the mixture into the freezer for roughly 45 minutes or until the mixture is solid. Then create a small, round teaspoonful of the mixture into your hands and form a ball. Put the balls on a tray lined with parchment paper until the mixture is finished. Put the tray into the freezer for at least an hour (make sure they are firm when you take them out). Then as fast as possible, dip the frozen balls into the melted chocolate and put them back on the tray. Then, if desired, add the sprinkles and the chopped peanuts onto the balls and store them in a container (just a warning, however, you probably will not have leftovers for very long). Tip: to make it more Valentine’s like, get red sprinkles to decorate the truffles.

Now with these two delicious desserts, expect a fabulous Valentine’s Day Year! And even better, expect your relationship lasting a long, long time!
