The Realities of Going Home for Winter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.
The words “Winter Break” usually result in a huge grin, and maybe even some tears of joy across the faces of university students. We can’t wait to go home for the holidays, to see our friends and family that we’ve missed so dearly and of course, the home cooked meals. But with almost a month of free time, and moving back with your family after at least 3 months of living on your own, the cabin fever can get to us all. Be prepared to experience the full spectrum of human emotions this Winter break.

When you finally get to your own bed.

When you see all your friends from home.

When your relatives ask you how school’s going…Oh y’know…really well!!

One week into winter break; so…much…free…time.

When you get to eat real food. You mean these vegetables weren’t from the frozen section?!

When relatives ask what gifts you want for the holidays. The answer is literally anything… groceries, underwear, whatever.

When your parents lecture you about everything from washing your dishes to saving money.

When you start to miss your school friends who live halfway across the country.

But then you realize winter break is almost over and you’ll be back with them soon…

Which also means it’s the start of a new semester.
