Midterm Motivation: 10 Quotes to Keep You on Track

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Ottawa chapter.

It’s that time of year again, folks. Another round of midterms is just around the corner. If you haven’t realized this yet, I’m sorry to break it to you. It’s happening. And if you’re like any other student, you’re not looking forward to it. Midterms = a lot of work, and oftentimes, not a lot of motivation. But keep your head up, fight the laziness, and don’t settle for “just a pass”.

Here’s some motivational quotes to keep you on track:

1. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain

This is so true. Don’t be that person that studies the night before the midterm. Start now. You’ll thank me, and Mark Twain, later.

2. “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” – Winston Churchill

Save this one for when you’re a couple hours into studying and ready to call it quits. It might seem awful now, but you’ll get through it. Take a short break if you need to, grab another coffee, and keep going.

3. “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela

I think we’ve all experienced this one. Remember that midterm last semester you were TOTALLY stressing about? It wasn’t that bad, was it? You survived. Keep this in mind for next time you’re totally stressed out.

4. “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” – Confucius

Stop pushing yourself to be on a timeline. Don’t compare yourself to others. You’re doing great. You’ll get done what you need to get done, don’t worry.

5. “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible”- Audrey Hepburn

This one is for when you’re feeling totally de-motivated. You can do it. You need to believe in yourself and your potential. Nothing is impossible.

6. “Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen.” – Wayne Huizenga

Get up early. Make the most out of your day. Make a plan. If you do this it won’t seem so overwhelming anymore. How can you be successful if you don’t put in the work?

7. “Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential.” – John Maxwell

If you work hard, you will be successful. It really is that simple. Hard work does pay off.

8. “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” – Beverly Sills

Or in other words, don’t be lazy! Put in the work. It’ll pay off.

9. “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” – Thomas A. Edison

Don’t give in. Keep pushing.

10. “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.” – Sam Levenson

Don’t waste your time stressing about how much time you have. It won’t change anything and it certainly won’t help. Make a plan, stick to it, and everything will work out. Just breathe.
