Wolverine Weekends With Caroline: Winter Wonderland

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

How many times have you heard Jingle Bell Rock in the last few weeks? My guess is, plenty.  The holiday music is in full swing, the air is brisk, and that warm cup of delicious hot chocolate is constantly on your mind.  Well, collegiettes™, even though it’s not quite December 21st, it sure feels like winter has arrived! Here are some tips to ring in the new season.

Sporting Sensations
Though football season at The Big House has officially ended, we can still cheer for our Wolverines in the comfort of the indoors.  Winter is the perfect time to catch a hockey game at Yost or a basketball game at Crisler arena.  While these facilities can’t exactly hold over 100,000 spectators, the spirit in the student sections is still magical.  Don’t miss out!

Holiday Decor
Decorating for the holidays is one of the most exciting times of the year! Be sure to hang up colorful lights, put snowflake clings on your windows, and purchase your very own mini Christmas tree!  Listening to holiday music (Pandora has a great Christmas station) or watching Elf as you decorate will make the experience even better!

Tasty Treats
The holiday season is the one time of the year where you can indulge in some delicious treats without feeling guilty or worrying about that number on the scale.
Starbucks is the place to go for a fabulous gingerbread, caramel, or peppermint mocha latte.  You can even try all three – the peppermint mocha skinny is only 100 calories!

Showdown in the Snow
When the first snowfall of the year hits Michigan, make sure your hats, gloves, and boots are easily accessible.  They’ll come in handy when making snow angels and participating in the ultimate snowball fight! Also, don’t forget to start snagging those trays from the dining hall – they’re perfect for sledding.

Trendy Traditions
If you’ve never attended an ugly Christmas sweater party before, now is your chance! Check out a thrift shop like Ragstock, and search through a great collection of ugly Christmas sweaters.  You’ll fit right in with whichever one you buy.  Remember, the uglier the better!
