Wolverine Weekends with Caroline: Make the most of your study-filled weekend!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

It’s that dreaded time of the semester again – round one of exams are in the not-so-distant future.  While it’s typical to lock yourself in a secluded place and stock up on unlimited supplies of coffee and chocolate during these 48-hour cram sessions on the weekend, it’s important to reward yourself for all the hard studying you’ve been doing.  Don’t feel guilty about taking a much-needed breather!

I always find that indulging in a sweet treat is one of the best ways to spend a study break.  Since those favorite seasonal lattes are quickly returning to local cafes, try ordering a pumpkin spice latte, and put yourself in the autumn spirit!  If you’re looking for a more unique treat, something different than the same old cookies and candies, see what specialty shops your local town has to offer.   For the ladies of Ann Arbor, I recommend checking out Cupcake Station, an adorable little cupcake shop located on East Liberty Street.  Upon walking in the door, you’re greeted with nothing but a huge display of cupcakes.  From ‘Coconut Blitz’ to ‘Red Velvet’ and ‘Station’s Samoa,’ you’re destined to find your new favorite cupcake here.  I personally recommend the banana split flavor!

Baking is also a great way to take a break from hitting the books while having fun at the same time.  I brought a giant book filled with tons of creative cupcake recipes with me to college, and I’m so glad I finally got the opportunity to use it!  My friends and I enjoyed spending a couple of hours baking and decorating a bouquet of flower cupcakes on Saturday afternoon.

The classic study-break option of watching a favorite movie never fails.  Pop a bag of popcorn and cuddle up in your most comfortable pair of sweatpants. Put on a comedy, so you can just forget about all your responsibilities for a little while.   She’s the Man, Wedding Crashers, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall are all fabulous choices!

And, finally… it’s always acceptable to pamper yourself a little bit.  Paints your nails, go to the gym and burn off some steam, or even go shopping for a bit and buy something super cute that’s been on your “splurge list” – you deserve it after such a studious weekend.

So, collegiettes™, how are you going to make the most of your study-filled weekends?
