Spring Break Style Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

We have less than two weeks until Spring Break. I’m sorry, did you not hear that? LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. If you’re one of the unfortunate few who is not going anywhere for this glorious occasion, I’m sorry. If you’re lucky enough to escape this freezing/rainy/sunny/snowy/hailing Michigan weather (seriously, is Mother Nature sexually frustrated or something?), you’re going to need some essentials.

Leave your Hunters and yoga pants at home, Collegiettes (seriously, ENOUGH WITH THE YOGA PANTS). We’re flying south for the winter.

1. Bathing Suit

Unless you’re planning on skinny dipping the entire time (which, I’d like to remind you is illegal on public beaches. This isn’t Europe, okay?) you’re obviously going to need a bathing suit. Here are some of my favorite looks for this season:

1. Urban Outfitters Retro Floral Bikini—Top: $42.00 Bottoms: $36.00

2. Kandy Wrappers for PacSun Studded Bustier Top $39.95

2. Cover-Up

Put your hands above your head and step away from the Soffe shorts. Opt instead for one of these cute alternatives that won’t make you want to cover up the cover-up.

1. Strapless French Terry Romper $45.00

2. Racerback Scoopneck Dress $49.50

3. High-Waisted Shorts

I’m always game for anything retro. I was skeptical, at first, when high-waisted shorts came back into style. Who am I—Marilyn Monroe? But they’ve grown on me. They look perfect with crop tops, long shirts, and if you find the perfect pair, they make your waist look tiny.

1. Vintage Levi high-waisted denim shorts blue ombre dip-dyed bleach $30.00

2. High Waisted Denim Shorts Shredded $35.00

4. Anything Floral

It’s Spring Break. Spring means flowers. Therefore, you should rock as much floral as you can. It’s almost required by law.

1. Floral Printed Pleated Dress $24.80

2. Reverse Floral Studded Waist Skirt

5. Sandals

Yes, there are places in the world where people still wear sandals. They aren’t a thing of the past or a wonderful dream. Leave your UGGs and wool socks behind. It’s time to let your toes be free (you should probably get a pedicure first—just a suggestion).

1. Black Poppy Studded T-Strap Sandals $29.50

2. AEO Bow T-Strap Sandal $29.95

Of course there are many other essentials that you need to fill your suitcase(s) with, but these are just a few that you cannot leave behind. With these at your side, you’re guaranteed to have a stylish Spring Break—finally. Also, be sure to pack some sunscreen. Sunscreen is the number 1 essential. Sunburns look good on no one. Please keep that in mind.
