5 Fun Ways to Finish the School Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mich chapter.

With less than a month before the end of the school year, UMich students are struggling to make the days count. From final exams to the last few parties to March Madness being over, it might feel like there are a bunch of lasts. No worries, Her Campus is here with a list of things to help you go out with a bang so you can have a kickass summer!

Solidify your summer plans. A lot of end-of-the-year stress comes from having absolutely no idea how you are going to spend your four glorious months of summer. Your parents are probably on your case about getting a job or an internship because lounging at the pool just won’t cut it this summer. Seek out family, friends or relatives to see if they know anyone that will hire you for the summer. Search on Monster and Craigslist for jobs that fit your interests. Ask around at local stores or restaurants to see if they need summer help. The most important thing is to get out and to get experience. Good luck!

Make a move on that guy you’ve been crushing on. We all have one guy that we have been not-so-subtly flirting with all year. So before school lets out for the summer, you owe it to yourself to see if there’s any potential. There is nothing worse than spending your whole summer thinking “What if?” or “Will I see him again?” Instead, be bold and ask him out to coffee or see if he wants to hang out. Chances are, he will say yes because you are fabulous. If he says no, take it with a grain of salt and move on because there are plenty of fish in the sea.

Hit the gym. With bikini season right around the corner, now is the time to perfect your bikini body. Try to go to the gym at least two times a week for a full-body workout. Start with stretches and cardio, lift weights, go on the elliptical, and do ab workouts. There is so much to do! Just remember, being fit goes hand in hand with eating healthy, so try to eat balanced and nutritious meals full of fruits, veggies, and whole grains.  The trick is to stay motivated and not to give up.

Ace your exams. These last few weeks are definitely going to be challenging because of all the final projects and papers that you have due. Although there are all sorts of study tips floating around on the Internet, the first step is to get sleep. Without being fully charged, your brain will not be able to function as well and your body will not have the energy to get through the day. Another key strategy is to make flashcards or outlines. It is scientifically proven that if you handwrite something, you will be able to remember it better. Go over your notes, look through Powerpoints from lectures, and talk to your classmates about any questions you may have.

-Finally, create memories with your friends. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, there is no better way to end the school year than to make lasting memories with your friends. Life is about these moments and the people you choose to spend it with. So go to parties on weekdays. Hang out in your dorm room with your crew. Order lots of cheesy bread from Pizza House. Spin the cube. Listen to the Selfie song. Take silly selfies. Try something new. Whatever it is, this is your time to live. Enjoy it!
