Stressed and Overwhelmed: How to Be a Professional Multitasker

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Got three papers, a workout, and an empty stomach to attend to all in one night? Take it from a professional multitasker to teach you the basics to get it all done with time to spare.

Prioritize: Choose what are the most important tasks that need to be done. If you’re between homework, the dining hall, or your favorite television show, clearly your schoolwork is your priority. Which sometimes can be a bummer, especially when they’re serving ice cream sundaes for late night.

Eliminate: Remove unnecessary extra tasks. They only create more stress for your already hectic life.

Time Management: Write it down. The best way to time manage is to write it, type it, or log it somewhere so you can figure out what you need to do by what time, and where you need to be at that date.

Focus: Don’t let social media or bickering friends get in the way of the daily tasks you have to accomplish. Set your eye on the prize and don’t stop until you have achieved your goals.

Breathe: Don’t forget the most important part of multitasking, breathing! You wouldn’t believe how a few deep breaths can do wonders for you overwhelmed brain. It’s the key to accomplishing it all.

Happy multitasking, Collegiettes!
