“I saw it on Pinterest!” is a common statement that us Collegiettes frequently hear when we compliment a friend’s crafty creation. I’ve spent countless hours perusing through boards containing anything from fashion ideas to gardening layouts, and I don’t even garden. Pinterest is a girl’s best friend, and in honor of this, I have compiled 7 reasons why.

1. Fashion Ideas: Tired of your wardrobe? Want to try out a new style? My go-to place for new fashion is Pinterest. You can look through hundreds of pictures of cute outfits, hair-styles, shoes, and bags. You may even find combos of your own clothes that you never knew existed! AND, most of the time, you can trace it back to who sells it.

2. Recipes: The “Food & Drink” section is probably where I spend most of my time on Pinterest. Healthy dinner ideas and glorious chocolate cake recipes sit side by side in the site’s simple layout: it’s all there. It’s perfect for when you want to just hang out with your friends and bake something delicious, or when you started a new health kick and need some nutritious recipes.

3. Connect with Friends: When you’re away from your high school friends, sometimes it’s hard to stay in touch. Facebook and Instagram have made it easier, but Pinterest is another way to keep up. A lot of my friends have a similar style as me, so I love to see their pins. I also frequently “send” pins of cute kittens to my friend who is obsessed with cats. I worry a little that I’m encouraging her to be a crazy-cat-lady in the future, but she loves it!

4. Work Out Plans: I hate working out. I respect people who love it, but I simply don’t understand it. The health and fitness category is actually so helpful for people like me who need to be motivated by quotes, and don’t want to come up with their own work out plan. There are so many different plans that target various parts of your body. Trust me, it’s very helpful.

5. Present Ideas: Every holiday season or birthday I go through a stage of panic because I can’t think of something to get. Pinterest is the first place I go when I’m looking for creative ideas to make something personal. Now there is a category specifically for gift ideas. Pinterest reads my mind! Using a “Secret Board” that your friends cannot see is a key component to successfully developing a surprisingly wonderful and creative gift that your friend will love! (And she’ll never know you found it on Pinterest – hopefully.)

6. Dorm Décor: Every Collegiette wants to make her room look cute and feel like home (especially if you live in the glossy cinderblock dorm rooms of Southwest that are slightly reminiscent of a cell block in jail). I found all of my ideas for hanging pictures and how to best arrange my bed, desk and dresser combo on Pinterest.

7. Planning for the Future: So this one is a little embarrassing. But so many of us have wedding boards that I thought I’d throw it on this list. If I’m being honest, I love mine. It’s just a little preparation for what is hopefully going to happen in the future. Color theme ideas, what season, the dress, the ring. It’s actually really fun and you might just be helping your future-self out when it comes to the stressful process of planning a wedding!

Happy pinning, Collegiettes!
