A New Meaning To “Cheap Date”: 5 On-Campus Date Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

As girls we often stress about the little things like where a guy will be taking us on a date, but as we all know, everyone is on a tight budget while away at school. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t go on a great date on-campus!

Here are 5 cute on-campus date ideas:

1) Grab and Go

Go to any dining common grab and go during lunch or dinner if possible and before going on the date, pack some sort of picnic basket and a blanket. Grab and Go usually offers many options such as salads and pastas. Take the food outside, like to Southwest Beach, and set up a mini picnic date. Cute, romantic and FREE (well… a few swipes anyway).

2) The Procrastination Station

If the weather isn’t nice enough to have a picnic or enjoy each other’s company outside, try the Procrastination station in the Library. This is a perfect place for a quick first-date. Grab a Caramel Sea Salt Soy Latte and sit enjoy your cozy surroundings at one of the booths or at the bar.

3) Newman Café

The Newman Café is a hidden gem. It is right below the Newman Center, located next to Isenberg and Mahar auditorium. Although it may not be the most updated and fancy café in Amherst, the food is great and cheap! There are plenty of options on the menu for breakfast and lunch. This is a perfect little spot to sit down, eat, and have awesome conversation.

4) Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center is known for hosting amazing events, shows, plays, etc. Most of the time you can find extremely well-priced tickets, and special student deals. Grabbing a bite to eat and then seeing a show at the Fine Arts center would be a super cute idea for a date when you want to do something different.

5) Roots Café

Everyone on campus knows the new Commonwealth Honors College buildings are amazing. Within the residential community there is a small café. It is super modern and cozy. This would be perfect for a study date. The Roots Cafe is also conveniently open 24/7. Grab a coffee or a bite to eat and enjoy time with your significant other.

Hopefully you’ll be thinking of a “cheap date” in a whole new light after these fun on-campus date-night ideas!
