Let’s Talk About Height (And Why You Should Embrace Yours)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Sick of feeling like the shortest person out of your friend group? Do you feel like you tower over everyone and you’re just SO sick of it? Here’s a little secret on how to deal with your height on either end of the spectrum:

Embrace it.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 4 feet tall or 6 feet tall, you’re perfect just the way you are. You can’t really change your height, so you might as well learn to love it. We see so many advertisements from companies like Dove telling women to love their body types, and it’s high time to start loving your height as well.

If you’re 4’11” you can be just as fierce and elegant as those 5’10” models you’ve seen walking down innumerable catwalks. If you’re 5’10” you’re just as cute as a woman who is 4’11”. It’s all about confidence and if YOU have the confidence, you’re golden. Next time you’re feeling down on your height, remember that it’s the one part of you that you cannot change, so you might as well learn to love it. As Dr. Seuss once said, “A person’s a person, no matter how small (or tall),” and be the best person you can be with what you’ve got.

U Mass Amherst

Hey everyone! My name is Sarah Freudson and I'm a junior studying Legal Studies and Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies at Umass Amherst! I am a sister of Sigma Kappa Sorority and am very passionate about philanthropy. I volunteer my time as an art assistant, spending time with the elderly and visiting the sick at hospitals. My one goal in life is to visit as many countries as possible.  I am Ukrainian and I go back to the homeland to visit family as much as I can!The most significant thing about me is my idolization of F. Scott Fitzgerald. His quote: "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had," literally dictates my life. It shows the importance of volunteering along with the realization of how lucky we all are for our given circumstances.  I'm the type of girl that looks at the glass half full, thats for sure!!
