How to Transition Your Summer Wardrobe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Now that we’ve all gone back to school to hit the books (and parties), we occasionally look through our camera roll and get a little case of “Summertime Sadness” (Thanks for that, Lana). Yes, the hot summer days, beach trips, bright colors and late nights have all come to an unfortunate end – but I’ve got a few ways with a little tucking and layering that you can keep summer with you throughout this fall!

Living in New England, once we enter September there’s a dramatic change from crop tops to oversized sweaters, short shorts to insulated leggings, and shirts with no sleeves to North Face Jackets. But let’s get real with ourselves, its only a 10 to 15 degree drop in temperature, we can hold on to some of these summer pieces until New England shows us what it’s really about!

Here’s a list of summer clothing we loved that can transition into fall:

·      Crop Tops

·      Muscle Tanks

·      Circle Skirts

·      High-Waist Shorts

·      Prints

·      Pastels

·      Maxi Dresses

·      Converse

Now here’s what we need and how to go about taking these summer essentials and making them just as necessary in the fall! First, you keep the few things listed above. Second, grab your favorite leather and jean jackets, oversized flannels, thigh-high socks, infinity scarves, sweaters and booties etc., for fall. This is where we mesh the two seasons together!

Outfit One: Favorite Graphic Tee, High Waist Shorts, Leather Jacket and Booties

Outfit Two: Crop Top, High-Waist Jeans, Leather Jacket, and Converse

Outfit Three: Oversized Sweater, Circle Skirt, Thigh-High Socks, and Booties

Outfit Four: Muscle Tank, Jean Jacket, Printed Harem Pants, and Sneakers

Outfit Five: Maxi Dress, Infinity Scarf, Oversized Flannel, and Booties

And there you have it! Simple and easy ways to incorporate your summer clothes into cool fall trends, good luck!
