Get UMass Permaculture to the White House!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

This is a call to action to anyone reading this that has an email address (or two)! The highly successful UMass Amherst Permaculture Initiative has the chance to win the Campus Champions of Change Challenge! This program highlights university student run initiatives that are inspiring change and introducing progressive, positive ideas into their communities.

With one huge garden in front of Franklin DC, an edible herb garden near Worcester DC and a second large project slated for development near Berkshire DC, the UMass
Permaculture gardens are quickly becoming a recognizable point of pride for the UMass Amherst and 5 college communities. Through a process that takes a few months to complete, an ordinary lawn has been transformed into a garden that produces food. For more information and specifics, visit umasspermaculture.com.

This may seem like a far-out idea, but the permaculture initiative promotes the idea that local, real food is within reach of anyone who can put the effort into growing it. Hundreds of student volunteers have made this project what it is, and passionate leadership has guided this program from the start.
Now, UMass permaculture needs your help to send them to the White House to represent our campus. If they win, they’ll also be featured on an MTV special- I don’t need to tell you how many people they can reach through this particularly popular media outlet.
