5 Words We Should Bring Back to Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

In today’s world we use “OMG” and “LOL” as if they were real words and not abbreviations, I know I’m guilty of doing this more often than not. Every once in a while I like to throw words out there that I don’t hear people use anymore, which makes for more interesting conversations. Here are a few of my go-to words with their official dictionary.com definitions:

Instead of saying “hot,” use Dapper: “neat; trim; smart.” (Think David Beckham in a suit.)

Swoon: “to enter a state of hysterical recapture or ecstasy” (something that happens when you see a man looking dapper).

Instead of saying “hate” say, Loathe: “to feel disgust or intense aversion for.”

Instead of saying, “good”, “well”, or “ok”, say Dandy: “fine; excellent; first-rate” or you can say Swell: “excellent; wonderful; superb.”

These are some of the words I try to use when I’m tired of saying the same thing over and over again. Changing up your vocabulary gives life to the language we speak and makes us seem smarter (which is always a plus). I encourage you to either use these words, or find words not listed here, in your next conversation.
