5 Lessons That “Endless Love” Teaches Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

I’ve read mixed reviews for the new remake of the love story; some love it, some hate it. Some prefer the 1981 version of Jade and David’s romance, but regardless of which version you prefer, there are a few lessons you can take from it.

“You had my entire family fooled, never me.  This is the real you.  This is exactly who you are.”

1) The past doesn’t always define you, especially if you learned and grew from it.

Jade’s dad immediately jumped to the conclusion that David was dangerous because of a few skeletons in his closet, but David proved that he’d matured since then. As college students, we are bound to make mistakes, but we can see that as long as they are learning experiences, they shouldn’t define us.

“He’s sparked something in all of us:  laughter in my son,

an awakening in my daughter, a desire in me.”

2) Living in the past can make you blind to the present.

Jade’s dad spends so time grieving over Chris, he doesn’t see that the rest of his family is starting to heal. He is blind to what his wife and children are really feeling. Again, in college, you make mistakes and you may embarrass yourself, but if you get too hung up and worried because of those incidents, you may lose out on some opportunities.

“I know I am not good enough for you but I will spend all my life proving that I am.

3) True love isn’t bound by class (or race or gender for that matter).

People kept telling David and Jade that they shouldn’t be together, but they managed to beat the odds and make it. I say, love who you want. I understand everyone has different opinions on the subject, each as valuable as the last, but that’s just my view of things.

“I don’t want to wait.  I want to feel this with you.”

4) Trust your instincts.

Jade believed David was a good guy from the beginning and fought for what she wanted. Sometimes, we make irrational decisions, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad ones.

“Didn’t it ever worry you she wasn’t out experiencing the world?”

5) Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

Jade spends her time with books and her parents, until she opens up to David, which allows to have new experiences. You make the best memories when you step out of your comfort zone and open up to people.

What are your thoughts on Endless Love, Collegiettes?
