10 Must Have Items for Spring 2012

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

It’s supposed to be 60 degrees this week! Hallelujah. Even though we had a very relatively warm winter (for New England at least,) I’m sure you are all just as anxious as me to fold away the sweaters you’ve been wearing since November. Soon enough it’ll be time to bust out the spring wardrobe! Here are some new pieces of clothing and accessories to add to your closet, that just scream warm weather to me.

1. Striped Tee
J. Crew, $45
I’ve seen this shirt receiving a ton of attention on several fashion blogs just this week alone, and now I’m obsessed. This is such a fun twist on the classic, navy blue and white striped shirt. I absolutely adore stripes for the spring and summer seasons and can’t wait to add this timeless and bright top to my collection.

2. Floral Skinnies – Forever 21, $27.80
Everyone seems to be all about the bright colored denim this season, but I’m currently in love with floral patterned jeans. What I like most about this pair from Forever 21 is their subtlety. The flowers aren’t obnoxious or in your face, and the color is a muted red. With these, you can pull off the perfect unique and understated look.

3. Chambray Shirt – Madewell, $68

I bought this staple over the summer, and although pricy, was one of the best fashion decisions I’ve made. The button down is so versatile and I love how roomy it is (hence the “ex-boyfriend” fit). A chambray or denim shirt is essential for a classic spring look.

4. Light Weight Scarf – Urban Outfitters, $24

Swap your chunky, cable knit scarf for a lightweight transitional piece. I’m still a huge fan of scarves, even in the Spring. A light cotton or silk scarf can really turn a bland outfit around.

5. Bright Blazer – Forever 21, $29.80
Although blazers may have been worn to death this winter, this one is perfect for the spring. The pretty coral
color and big buttons put a new spin on its classic black counterpart.  Not only is it pretty inexpensive, it’s also extremely versatile: wear it during the day or at night over your favorite LBD.

6. Cheery Nail polish – Essie, $8
With the introduction of the warm months, comes the reemergence of fun, cheery nail polish. I am so ready to put aside my navy blue and neutrals until next winter.
Essie’s new spring line is everything you’d expect: cute, bright, and with a bit of shimmer.

7. Trench – H&M, $29.95
This trend is such a steal! I love the light, neutral color, and the big accent buttons. It’s a
complete breath of fresh air after a winter of black peacoats. Not to mention, you’ll look pretty classy walking around campus in this number.

8. New Shades – Asos, $21.49
A new sunny season, means new shades Thanks to my roommate, I’ve been obsessing over cheetah accessories, and these tortoise shell sunglasses fit the bill.
I also really like the retro design, instead of falling back on the over-done aviators or larger-than-face frames.

9. Color Block Sandals – Steve Madden, $89.95
Okay, so sandals might be a bit premature, but they’re too chic not to include them on the list.
The color block trend from previous seasons seems to be trickling down to footwear, and I’m really enjoying the array of colorful shoes to pick from. These will be sure to punch up any outfit.

10. Cute Sundress – Modcloth, $44.99
This list wouldn’t be complete without the essential sundress. My favorite part about the beginning of spring is being able to pull out my beloved sundresses again. Modcloth has a ton of adorable dresses, but this one is too much. The melon and lace Peter Pan collar work perfectly together to create a lovely spring look.
