Dressing for DAYGLOW!

Time to get down and dirty, Black Bears! The University of Maine has outdone itself this year by bringing the largest paint party to campus on one of student’s favorite days of the year, Maine Day! After giving back and volunteering all day, head on over to the field house for some loud music, strobbing lights, and raging with all the neon paint you can imagine. Dayglow is highly anticipated by all and here’s some tips on how to dress for the wild night.

First of all, like most concerts, foot attire is very important. Even if the weather is nice, protecting your toes and pedicure is very important if you want to have a fun night. Try wearing a pair of white Vans or Ked’s for the added support and protection from prodding rager’s. Not to mention, if they get a little paint on them it will make for an interesting, new pair of sneaks.

For bottoms, you can stray from the all white attire and mix it up with some prints or colors. Try some neon colored athletic shorts or an Aztec print body-con skirt. If you are feeling a more classic option, go with all white bottoms and watch them transform with your top as the paint begins to flow.

The top to your outfit should be the easiest and probably most plain piece you wear to Dayglow as it will be made over into a neon-splattered memento by the end of the night. Fringing, shredding, cropping, or beading a plain white shirt or tank tops are definitely Dayglow staples. Make sure it is something cheap that you don’t mind getting painted as there is no way to avoid it, and why would you want to?

Accessories are probably the most creative part of the entire outfit and should not be ignored. Load your arms with glow sticks, add a boho, sequence headband to keep your hair out of your face for optimal raging and don’t forget to bring sunglasses! Dayglow is one of the only events where sunglasses at night are encouraged and it helps keep the paint out of your eyes. As always, don’t wear anything you would be upset if it got covered in paint.

So there it is. Grab the neon, grab the glow sticks, and don’t forget to get decked out in white. The doors open at 7:00 pm and the paint starts slinging at 8:00 pm in the field house.
