5 Ways To Enjoy Fall at UMaine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Maine chapter.

Visit Acadia National Park

If you don’t appreciate living in Maine visit Acadia and you’ll see why tourists travel hundreds of miles to get here. The scenery is beautiful, and they’ve got plenty of trails and roads to explore. Don’t feel up to a hike? Visit their nature center to learn about their plants and animals. Make sure to spend time checking out the nearby attractions as well.

Hike the Boardwalk
Acadia seem a little far? Visit the Orono bog boardwalk. You’ll still be able to hike through the woods and appreciate nature without traveling an hour. A wooden path leads you through the forest, and small signs indicate trees or animals of interest. If you want more information while you’re walking, think about registering for a guided tour.

Go Apple Picking
Treworgy Farms is located in Levant, which isn’t as far as you’d think! About 20 miles from Orono, they’ve got plenty of things to do for the whole day. Bring some friends and spend the day picking apples, navigating their corn maze, and listening to a concert they have each weekend. You can also buy fruits and veggies there, and for those of you with a sweet tooth; they have an ice cream shop too.

Make an Apple Pie
You’ve got three bagfuls of apples, try making an apple pie! Check the Food Network for a delicious recipe and impress your roommates with a scrumptious pie on a cold day. If a pie is too daunting try an apply crisp, or even just dipping the apples in caramel. Add crushed nuts and you’ve got a crunchy sweet treat!

Buy a Pair of Fall Boots
Fall is the time to dust off your boots! Luckily for us flat boots are now in season, so our feet don’t have to suffer while walking to class. Plus, they’ll keep your feet warmer than flats or sandals in the chilly weather. Read Jenna Hoops’ article on Maine’s fashion must-have: leather boots here!
