I Had a Guy Friend Do My Makeup

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

There are a lot of well-known male makeup artists. Some popular ones are Jeffree Star, Manny and Patrickstarrr. These guys are crazy talented when it comes to makeup. My friend Nate on the other hand, though not as bad as I thought he would be, is still not good. I gave him a quick lesson on what brushes are for what products, as well as what the products are for. I didn’t tell him how to use them or how much.

I will give Nate major props for knowing to prime the face before foundation. He, however, completely coated my face in an outrageous amount of primer.

Nate is dedicated to everything he does. He didn’t take this makeup challenge lightly.

Contouring isn’t an easy task for even the most skilled makeup artists. Aside from picking the wrong colors, Nate contours like a pro (with the help of a picture showing contour and highlight guidelines).

Nate utilized a beauty blender, which he continuously called an egg, to blend out the cream contour. He eventually got the hang of it, and after being reminded to be gentle, he did a good job of blending out the pigment.

It took Nate about 5 minutes to figure out how to open up the powder contour palette,

but he eventually got it.

I have been through many terrifying things in my life, none of which come close to Nate applying my eyeliner. He did a great job of keeping the line straight on the top and bottom. I just looked like I had gone out the night before and slept in my eyeliner.

Along with the contour, Nate also did a really good job with the eyeshadow. He applied neutral colors evenly and blended them out nicely.

He even did a nice job filling in my eyebrows, that is after he figured out which end of the pencil to use.

Finally Nate chose a deep pink liquid lipstick. I believe that this, along with the eyeliner, he really struggled with. He did his best but eventually gave up.

I would say this looks closer to a mug shot than a post-makeover photo. Though it looks like I am wearing very little makeup, it took Nate around two hours to complete this look, and you can tell I am overjoyed with the outcome. It’s safe to say I won’t be having Nate do my makeup again. Maybe we should just stick to watching “The Walking Dead” together. Thank you, Nate, for taking the time to be a part of this article! Here is an idea of what this look should have looked like.
