Good Luck Cubs, From a White Sox Fan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

If you go to a Big 10 school, chances are you’re going to be surrounded by a ton of Illinoian kids sporting red, white and blue Chicago Cubs gear everywhere you go. Especially during this time of the year when it is the playoffs, and the beloved North Side team is going after a World Series title for the first time in 100+ years. The Cubs team and fans are hungry for that World Series trophy, but as a born and raised White Sox fan, I am envious of all of the fun you are having, especially since the White Sox failed to make the playoffs (again). White Sox fans cheering for the Cubs now does not mean we are hopping on the bandwagon with ya; we do not want to take credit for the years and years of loyalty that you have shown for the guys in blue. But we do want you to know that…

We respect your life long loyalty of cheering and attending games through thick and thin. Hell, you guys used to be the laughing stock of the MLB not that long ago, but there were still sell out crowds at Wrigley. Sadly, that is something White Sox fans cannot relate to.

We know that your relatives in heaven were the biggest Cubs fans you knew, who would love to “see” this success happen, and we wish they were still alive to experience history with you today. We know that they will find other Cubbies fans up there and have the ultimate “roof top” party over Wrigleyville.

We understand that you are not taking a second of this season for granted. You have waited all too long to experience this, and you appreciate and celebrate every strike out from your pitchers and every homer that gets hit out of the friendly confines because every good play leads you closer to that shiny trophy you desperately yearn for.

We admire the bond you have with one another. You deserve this more than any fanbase in the world. So although we will not jump on the bandwagon, we will offer our support because at the end of the day, we all share the same bond to the great city of Chicago. We want our city to succeed, even if it means rooting for the crosstown rivals.

We hope that you will let us into this experience. We hope that we can share a nice cold drink with you at the bar while watching the first pitch of game one. And we hope that you will let us celebrate whatever outcome this season has, hopefully with a Chicago style parade. Go, Cubs, go!
