With the constant usage of my Spotify during quarantine, I have worn out nearly all my playlists by replaying the same five or so songs. Now, I have decided to spend some time to find some new music to spice up my playlists and vibe to which I want to share with you!

Greta Van Fleet

If you’re a fan of classic rock music, try listening to Greta Van Fleet. Their music is super nostalgic of the 70s, with strong guitar solos and the lead singer whose voice contests Robert Plant. The majority of their songs are upbeat and remind you of driving down highways in the middle of summer with the windows down.

Best Song: You’re The One I Want

Runner-Up: Always There

Inhaler

Reminiscent of Joy Division and Arctic Monkeys, Inhaler is a band from Ireland consisting of four members: Elijah Hewson (lead vocals), Robert Keating (bassist), Ryan McMahon (drummer), and Josh Jenkins (guitarist). Their songs range from upbeat dance-alone-in-your-room type songs to songs to simply chill to.

Best Song: My Honest Face

Runner-Up: Ice Cream Sundae

Declan Mckenna

An indie artist with some politically charged songs, Declan McKenna is one of the most underrated artists in the music scene. McKenna has songs that range from criticizing FIFA for giving a World Cup to Brazil and ignoring the poverty of the nation, to songs about the misrepresentation of trans teens in the media. If you want songs with a good beat and lyrics that hold meaning to the political climate of society, give Declan McKenna a whirl!

Best Song: Brazil

Runner-Up: Key to Life on Earth

Girl in Red

While Girl in Red has been gaining traction on TikTok, she is relatively new to the industry, having come out with her first single in 2017. Girl in Red, whose real name is Marie Ulven, is noted for her songs about LGBTQ+ relationships and mental health. Marie, who is a lesbian, is a major queer icon in the LGBTQ+ community, who is expanding the inclusivity and diversity of the indie scene.

Best Song: Girls

Runner-Up: Bad Idea!

The Driver Era

If you’re a fan of Ross Lynch (from “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” or “Austin and Ally”), you might want to check out him and his brother’s band. The alternative vibes of the band are pretty unique, but are still songs that you can – and will absolutely want to – dance to.

Best Song: A Kiss

Runner-Up: Afterglow

The Oh Hellos

Another artist that has gained some traction from Tiktok, The Oh Hellos are an indie folk rock duo of siblings. One of their most popular albums titled “Dear Wormwood” is based on C.S. Lewis’ Narnia and The Screwtape Letters. The songs give an overall homey, cottage-core vibe that you can relax to and feel inspired by.

Best Song: Soldier, Poet, King

Runner-Up: Bitter Water

Trevor Hall

With a mix of folk, roots, and reggae, Trevor Hall offers a very unique discography to your next Spotify playlist. Most of his songs have a spiritual influence that offer views about the synchronicities of the universe. Trevor Hall is a really good artist to listen to when you want to do yoga, meditate, or simply chill.

Best Song: The Lime Tree

Runner-Up: Moon and Sun

Music is an incredible way to improve your mood, especially right now. Give these artists a listen and expand your horizons!
