BookTokers and BookTubers That Will Spark a Love for Reading

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

If you’re not on #BookTok… what are you doing? BookTok, the reading side of TikTok, is filled with an amazing array of books and authors that are all available to you under one simple hashtag. If you’re not into Tiktok (sometimes I’m not either), you can head over to BookTube where it’s the same style content, but in longer form on YouTube. I’ve always loved to read, but these two categories of content have truly reignited my passion and given me tons of new, marvelous books! If you’re looking to get into reading or just enjoy watching people talk about books (am I a nerd?), check out some of my favorite book content creators below.

Steph Bohrer

The literal absolute queen of book-related content is Steph Bohrer. A 20-year-old Arizona State University student, Steph shares all of her favorite book recommendations with thousands of people on her TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. She began on TikTok and quickly gained a mass following due to her calm yet passionate personality. I don’t know how she does it, but the instant she talks about a book I immediately add it to my Goodreads TBR list… and then eventually spend all my money buying them. Some of her most-viewed videos on YouTube are “‘I hate everyone in the world but you’ book recommendations,” “the only books I’ve ever given five stars” and “romance books that made me cry.” Aside from her book content, she also creates videos on makeup looks, Pinterest boards and more! Bonus: She’s a massive Swiftie and Styler.

Larissa Cambusano (aka Larry Reads)

If you’re looking for the most amazing romance recommendations, Larry Reads is your girl. Like most people, Larissa began sharing her favorite novels on TikTok and became an instant hit. I’ve never witnessed someone get so excited over books, and it radiates through the screen! I would say that her genre is much more romance-based with an emphasis on dark/steamy romance. I singlehandedly give her credit for getting people to buy the Addicted series by Krista & Becca Ritchie through her numerous videos raving about all the books. She also talks a ton about the Twisted series by Ana Huang and the Ravenhood series by Kate Stewart. If you are going to pick up one of her recommendations, I strongly suggest checking trigger warnings before, as many of them bring up deep topics. Watching one of her unboxing videos (she opens up a ton of book-mail from her followers) gives me enough serotonin to last a week.

Coco Day

Someone who is more low-key, but just as enjoyable to watch is Coco Day. I’m a sucker for British accents, so watching her makes it that much more fun. While Coco makes a plethora of different videos (what I eat in a day, vlogs, productive morning routines), my personal favorites are her book ones! She often posts videos where she binge-reads and finishes a few books in a couple days, which are the perfect solution to get out of a reading slump. I would describe her aura as very laid-back and calming. My favorite part of her videos is when she reads before the sun comes up and turns on her salt lamp… what is better than starting your day like that? If you are looking for a British vibe, mixed in with a calm, chill environment, I highly recommend Coco!
