The Best Amanda Bynes Roles of All Time

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

The actress we’ve loved since the 90’s just turned 30 on April 3, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than binge watching our favorite Amanda Bynes movies. Hopefully this new year will bring an end to her break from acting and she will finally grace us with more great rom-coms. In the meantime, check out our list of Amanda Bynes’ best roles of all time.

All That (1996-2002)

This sketch comedy show on Nickelodeon is where many of us met Amanda for the first time as kids, and we’ve loved her ever since.

The Amanda Show (1999-2002)

At just 13 years old, Amanda was hosting and starring in her own show- talk about goals. Remember her #1 fan Penelope Taynt, the Girl’s Room, and the Hill Billy Moment? Her repertoire of characters will have a place in our hearts forever.

Daphne Reynolds in What a Girl Wants (2003)

I don’t know what it is about this movie, but every time it’s on TV I have to drop everything I’m doing and watch it. It has all the elements of a classic chick flick: a cute boy, a European city, a fashion montage, a dance number, and a tear-worthy happy ending. The perfect choice for movie night with the girls.

Her best quote: “My evil stepsister, you’ve seen Cinderella, right? Let me clue you in, I win.”

Viola in She’s the Man (2006)

This is definitely one of Amanda’s best movies, if not arguably one of the best movies ever. Almost all of her lines are quotable, and she shows us that girls can do anything that guys can do. Plus Channing Tatum. No explanation needed.

Her best quote: “When my eyes are closed I see you for what you truly are…which is ugly!”

Penny Pingleton in Hairspray (2007)

Who knew Amanda Bynes could also sing and dance? Even though she had a supporting role as Tracy Turnblad’s best friend, her performance in the successful musical really stood out.

Her best quote: “I am now a checkerboard chick!”

Marianne in Easy A (2010)

I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to like her character in this movie, but it just wouldn’t be the same without her. We’re not very used to seeing Amanda play the mean girl, which is different than her usual “girl next door” roles, but she definitely pulls it off.

Her best quote: “We need to pray for her. But we also need to get her the hell out of here.”
