This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

This week’s campus celebrity is one of our own HC staffers, junior Amy McDavitt! We got a chance to talk to her about her current (and upcoming new position!) at UCTV.

Name: Amy McDavitt
Year: Junior
Major: Journalism and Human Development & Family Studies
Hometown: Needham, MA

HC: Why are you passionate about journalism and news production?

AM: I love telling a story, which is what good journalism is all about. I just really enjoy the process of filming interviews and events and bringing pieces of that together to create a product that tells people something they didn’t know earlier that day.

HC: What is your role at UCTV?
AM:
Previously I have worked on writing news stories, acting as an anchor, and editing our broadcast tapings. I’ll be the News Director, as of May 10!

HC: How has your role at UCTV affected your life here at UConn?

AM: I’ve met so many great people and connected with others who also love journalism and TV production. I’ve made a whole new group of friends.

HC: What’s your favorite part about being involved?

AM: Meeting people I wouldn’t have known otherwise. It makes the big campus seem just a little bit smaller.

HC: Are you involved on campus in other ways as well?

AM: I have written for the Daily Campus and now Her Campus as well!

HC: What are your future plans to build on your resume?

AM: I’m really excited to be News Director at UCTV next year; I have some new ideas for the department! In the meantime, this summer I’m interning in the newsroom at New England Cable News (NECN).

HC: After UConn, what would be your dream job?

AM: My dream job would be to work as a producer for 60 Minutes or 20/20.

Bridget is a senior at the University of Connecticut majoring in journalism and anthropology. Between interning at The Hartford Courant/Fox CT and a nonprofit education agency during the week, she manages a website she founded about cooking quick, healthy meals for college students, and writes for Examiner.com about creating low-budget meals. She is a campus rep for BaubleBar jewelry, and served as a peer mentor to freshmen this year. Bridget studied abroad in London, and interned at a lifestyle magazine over the summer in Shanghai, China. Her free time is dedicated to scouring the Internet for discount designer shoes and following UConn and Boston sports. She's training for a half marathon this spring, which (at times) justifies her weakness for mint chocolate chip ice cream. She hopes to see every inch of the world someday, and maybe write about it too.
