6 Reasons why Thanksgiving is the Best Holiday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

1. Thanksgiving is a secular holiday, everyone celebrates it

A holiday in America for both believers and nonbelievers in the country represents nothing more than togetherness, food and football. All around, Thanksgiving is a crowd pleaser and there’s no denying that.

2. There’s no gigantic build up

Yes, Christmas is great, but just wait a second because we’re not even there yet. The pressure of presents and celebrations Christmas entails is sometimes just a little too stressful.  Just sit back on Thanksgiving and stuff yourself, it’s that simple.

3. Endless options for pie

Thanksgiving is probably one of the only socially acceptable times where pie is at the forefront of the dessert list. Pecan, pumpkin, cherry, apple, sweet potato, chocolate cream, cranberry apple, there’s really something for anyone.  And don’t mind if I do to a third or fourth slice.

4. Side dishes play a main role

Move over turkey, we’ve got mashed potatoes and stuffing to focus on. You really don’t even have to be an expert at cooking to whip up something great.

5. The point of this holiday is to spend time with friends and family and eat

Plus, it’s one of those Holidays where you can drink early on in the morning with your family without them judging you.

6. The post-dinner nap

When those pants start getting just a bit too tight, you know it’s time for a much needed nap to digest your gold-medal deserved meal.

And of course, a Thanksgiving break from classes and exams doesn’t hurt.

Happy Thanksgiving, huskies!
