The upcoming winter months may be stressful for many. From the holidays, traveling, and what seems to be the unbearably cold weather, things can start to feel quite overwhelming. To overcome the “winter blues” and feelings of inertness, here are 10 things you can try that will leave you feeling productive and excited.

Take on Baking

Even on a sunny or snowy cold day, it is always a great time to take on baking. Holiday flavored cookies with some hot chocolate would make this activity totally worth it.

Get Involved With a Book Club or Swap

If the weather is ever stopping you from getting out of the house, try to indulge yourself in a book! There are many clubs or swaps you can take part in, or you can even get some great recommendations from TikTok, YouTube, blogs, etc.

Build Gingerbread Houses

Building gingerbread houses will always be a classic seasonal activity and will never get old. Spice it up by making it from scratch and incorporating your newly acquired baking skills!

Go Sledding or Tubing

If you don’t mind some snow, try some fun and subtle sledding or tubing that will help you fully experience a good ol’ fashioned New England winter.

Hiking

Before the first snowfall, bundle up and go on a hike! Nature is truly not appreciated enough during the wintertime. It could get quite cold out, but there’s no reason to shy away from putting on some layers and getting some fresh air!

Holiday Gift Shopping

Ah. The craze of holiday shopping. Tons of stores are already having pre-holiday season sales, so take advantage of it while you can. Even support your local small businesses to get some gifts or stocking stuffers!

Make Chunky Blankets

If you haven’t heard about the DIY chunky blanket activity, then you are missing out. Although it can be quite time consuming, it is a fun, relaxing, and rewarding activity to do on a snowy winter day. Being able to do it yourself gives you the perfect holiday gift or personal blanket to get all cozy in.

Have a Movie Marathon

Who honestly doesn’t love a movie marathon? With all the newly added holiday movies and TV shows, Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video have all that you could ever wish for. It is never a bad idea to sit back and watch a classic with your family or friends.

Decorate For The Holidays

Decorating has got to be the best part of the cold season. Having some lights and color in your yard or inside your house will keep you feeling warm inside and appreciate the holiday cheer during the winter, which can be a tough time for many.

Go See Holiday Lights

If you ever find yourself feeling bored, even just driving around and seeing some holiday lights is always a fun way to entertain yourself. Although subtle, you’ll always find yourself missing them during other seasons throughout the year.
