Watch for Annual Allocations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

First and second weeks back are busy weeks for everyone, and as easy as it is to get swept up in classes, there is one thing you should NOT lose track of! Annual Allocations is the school’s gift to us for working hard throughout the year, creating change, bringing students together, and celebrating our diverse interests. Beginning first week of spring quarter, RSO leaders began the process of applying for school funding for the following academic year. An extended event in itself, requiring advisor meetings, info sessions, and budget creation and submission, it is also the prequel to many or most student-hosted events throughout the year. Though a very structured process, it is designed through its completion for students to successfully access what is, well, free monies!

By attending a webinar session, made much more convenient online version of the in person, more cumbersome information sessions they held in the past, students can get an understanding of how to design their budget. After coming up with a template and meeting with their advisor, the annual allocations committee reviews submissions and funds a breadth of projects throughout the year. From master dance classes to Greek philanthropy events to Model UN conferences, if it benefits the school community in a new and creative way, annual allocations wants to fund you.

What’s so great about the springtime? It’s finally warm enough out to venture out to all those events you’ve been reading about all year! And if you have grand ideas for your own RSO in the coming months, Annual Allocations is the way to go. Don’t miss out! Budgets are due by April 24th.
