Pretzels: Your Fun Guide to Jazzing Up a Common Snack

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

The study hour munchies start nagging at you, they are distracting you from your homework, and at some point your stomach cannot be ignored any longer. But what to snack on? You’ve had dinner but you’re hungry again. Fruits and veggies are a great snack yet you long something more than an apple or carrot sticks. What is a girl to do for a healthy study snack that isn’t fruits or vegetables? Fear not, pretzels have saved day.

Not all pretzels are equal. While most are relatively low in calories, there are some kinds that are significantly higher. And also some that are significantly low. Rold Gold pretzel sticks are one hundred calories a serving which is about fifty-three pretzel sticks. Now that is a single serving! The great thing about the serving size to calorie ratio; you can eat them throughout a movie as a movie snack or during your studying hours.

After a while, a plain bag of pretzels can seem boring and old. But there are many ways to liven up the look of the pretzel!

Mustard

Besides the honey mustard flavored pretzels, dipping plain pretzels in your favorite mustard is tasty way to mix things up. It may sound odd but a spicy brown mustard with the pretzel taste is great. If you are a fan of the honey mustard flavor, another great pretzel also by Rold Gold is the Honey Mustard Twists. Not the Honey Mustard Pieces by Synder’s; those are incredibly delicious but laden with calories. Rold Gold’s Honey Mustard pretzels are one hundred and ten calories for a single serving of about twenty pretzels.

Sweet and Salty

The salt in pretzels is amazing with a little bit of sweetness. Try dipping them in your favorite jam! They are also great with peanut butter or hummus which will increase the calorie count more than some other options but at least they are healthy calories.

Top it Off!

Pretzels add a nice salty crunch to a fruity yogurt (you can even dip them) or the ever-green salad.

The Hybrid

If you really have a craving for potato chips but hate the guilt trip try Pretzel Crisps by Snack Factory. This mash up of a pretzel, chip, and cracker is delicious by itself and perfect to top! The original deli style clocks in at one hundred and ten calorie for eleven crisps. Besides the original, there are several flavors of Pretzel Crisps from Jalapeño Jack to Cinnamon Toast.

More than bland party snack next the chip bowl, pretzels are healthy staple that can save a many junk food binges.
