Make History with Pi Beta Phi

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

Ready for a great study break and an even better way to spend the first November weekend? On November 2, the Campus Expansion Leaders of Pi Beta Phi, the 145-year-old International Fraternity for Women, will be hosting their first information session. Covering the national philanthropy for Pi Beta Phi, this exciting event will be held in Cox Lounge in Stuart Hall and Potential New Members can choose to attend at 7, 8 or 9pm.

Every year, for various reasons, numerous girls decide against going through formal sorority recruitment. Perhaps the idea of standing in heels among a sea of girls with adrenaline and excitement running higher than it has all year is uninviting to some. Although it is an experience of a lifetime, formal recruitment is just not appealing to everyone. That is where Pi Beta Phi comes in.

Providing a fourth option for girls who want to be the founder of a chapter, our newest sorority is hoping to gain 100 new members this fall. While the University of Chicago has three great Panhellenic sororities, the prospect of joining a brand new Greek organization is appealing to a lot of girls. New members will have the opportunity to form firsthand traditions with their fellow sisters, which will provide a different type of bonding experience than they may find joining a pre-existing sorority.

If starting new traditions with your sisters does not have you hooked, joining Pi Beta Phi will also provide members with the immediate chance to become a leader of this pioneering organization. Girls who join this year will have the rewarding experience of watching their sorority transform from the ground up throughout their college years.

Pi Beta Phi’s symbol, an arrow, is quite fitting for their campus debut as one could say this new sorority will always be moving forward, onward and upward. Promoting lifelong friendships, leadership potential and enriching the lives of their members through community service, Pi Beta Phi aims to create a strong presence on campus and to build unique traditions at their newest chapter.

Along with forming traditions and lifelong friendships, Pi Beta Phi has been dedicated to supporting Read. Lead. Achieve. in their efforts against illiteracy. Pi Phi partners with various organizations and calls upon alumnae for help with financially supporting their national philanthropy. Much like the pre-existing sororities, Pi Beta Phi will also organize an exciting event on campus to fundraise for Read. Lead. Achieve.

Going Greek is a decision for life that many girls do not regret. From the outside looking in you will never understand it, and from the inside looking out you can never explain it. If you find yourself always going forward, onward and upward, follow your arrow to Pi Beta Phi and become a member of a pioneering organization!
