Join aKDPhi’s Battle for the Boobs Campaign!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Chicago chapter.

You may know October as the month of Halloween, blistery winds, and pumpkin things, but did you know it’s also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

The University of Chicago chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi is hosting its annual Battle for the Boobs campaign from October 21 through 25, which involves over 60 business partnerships, as well as a competition between student teams on campus. They will be hosting several events, including Food for the Boobs (a food-eating relay contest), Men’s Breast Cancer Panel, Date Auction, a restaurant fundraiser with Noodles, etc. in Hyde Park, and more. All proceeds will go to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade for breast cancer research, support, and services.

On Friday, October 25, UChicago Chabad will also be hosting its first-ever Pink Shabbat, inviting students, community members, as well as breast cancer survivors to the dinner. The event is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, October 26, the American Cancer Society is hosting “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk downtown at Soldiers Field. Thousands of walkers will convene to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research, and honor those who have fallen to the disease.

Finally, the University of Chicago chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will be hosting a Breastival the week of October 28 to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Events include a strawberry milkshake sale and “On Wednesday We Wear Pink.”

Keep an eye out for all the events this month, and find out how you can get involved in the fight against breast cancer!
