HC UChicago’s Week in Review!

Going Vegan! 

VegWeek, which took place March 4-8, promoted sustainability by encouraging students to eat green for a week and hosting several events. Most notably, Gabrielle Darvassy, owner of B’Gabs Goodies, came to speak at the Raw Vegan Food Discussion on Monday, March 4, while Nathan Wyse of Arize Kombucha came to speak on Wednesday, March 6.

Proof’s Opening Night 

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Proof, written by University of Chicago alum David Auburn, opened on Thursday, March 7 at Court Theatre. The play is set around Hyde Park and focuses on a mathematician struggling with mental illness and his fierce, intelligent daughter. Make sure to see catch a performance before it closes on April 7.

The Art Incubator Opens

The Washington Park Arts Incubator, located at 301 E. Garfield Blvd., just opened this past Friday, March 8 as part of the University of Chicago’s Arts + Public Life Initiative—an ongoing project to build creative connections and engage with the South Side. The Incubator is a collaborative space that offers exhibitions, performances, and talks, as well as arts residencies, arts education, and community-based projects.

COUP hosted Saint Patrick Day’s Fest at Ida Noyes on Saturday, March 9, offering authentic Irish food catered from Bennigans, free beer for those 21+, and a host of colorful music and dance performances.
