Maximize your Time, Minimize your Effort

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Alberta chapter.

University: The number one place where mass amounts of energy and time are wasted and minimal results are accomplished.

This is all about to change.

Start the semester off successfully and learn how to budget your time while putting in the least amount of effort needed. These tips below will teach you how to accomplish your goals and manage your time.

Time Block

In your agenda (if you don’t have one, invest in one – Winners and Chapters are great locations to purchase one), schedule your tasks by hour. By giving yourself a specific amount of time to achieve an assignment, you are more likely to do it. Staying organized will allow you to save time and free up space to relax.

Key into Concentration

Put your phone away! If you can’t put your phone away or have issues leaving it in a different room, I suggest downloading the app Flora. Finding a way to stay accountable and actually being productive in the time you give yourself will increase the number of tasks you complete and the same amount of effort will be used.

Learn your Study Style

Are you a visual learner? Auditory? Take a short quiz to determine your learning style. By doing this, you will be able to figure out what works best for you. Additionally, only study in places where you do not sleep; attempting to do homework in a place that you associate with sleep will reduce your productivity.

Keep Snacks Handy

Remember to eat! It’s important to keep your energy up as it will ensure that you use your time wisely. Veggies and granola bars are perfect to keep in your bag; not only are they easy to pack but there’s no hassle involved when you finish.

Take Breaks

Overworking yourself and attempting to do too much will likely waste a lot of time as a lot of the time used will not yield desired results. Most of the time, students stare at a screen and in this case it’s important to look up 20 feet away, for 20 seconds, every twenty minutes. Doing this will decrease the chances of getting a headache. Additionally, if you take a break it’s best to go for a quick walk or do something to wake yourself.
