Whenever I’m stressed out or just want to take some time to relax and escape from day to day troubles, I always find myself turning on my favourite tv show. As much as I like the classic shows like Gossip Girl or The Office I also really enjoy watching shows that are nerdier, sci-fi, and fantasy-oriented. Below I have listed some of my favourite animated shows that I highly recommend checking out if you want to explore a new genre!

Avatar The Last Airbender

During the summer this became one of my all-time favourite shows. In fact, I loved it so much that I found myself watching it multiple times because it brought me so much joy. With three seasons, each with twenty-two episodes, the show provides you with tons of time to get to know and fall in love with all the characters. It is also animated in an anime style and happened to be one of the first animated shows I have watched in a while, so it exposed me to a different style of tv then I was used to!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Another animated show which makes my list is the Clone Wars. I have always been a huge Star Wars fan and quarantine provided me with the perfect excuse to finally sit down and watch the Clone Wars which was something I had wanted to do for a while. The show provides any Star Wars fan with a boatload of different plots and brings together characters both familiar and not to create an incredible tv show that spans seven seasons. Another aspect that pulled me into this show was the fact that the lead creator happened to work on the first season of Avatar The Last Airbender, so if you happen to be fans of one of these shows then I highly recommend you try out the other!

The Legend of Korra

If you enjoyed Avatar The Last Airbender and want to explore more of that world I highly recommend watching the spinoff series, The Legend of Korra. This series is much more adult-oriented, with an older cast and exploring more complex issues. It also contains an LGBTQ protagonist, something that is incredibly lacking in television. The show contains four seasons, so it’s slightly longer than Avatar and although it doesn’t contain the same lovable cast as its predecessor I still highly recommend giving it a try.
