As you already know, Mardi Gras 2022 has come and gone. We saw a lot of different trends and I’m here to break them down and rank some of my favorites done by Tulane students.

Firstly, one of my favorite trends is the Euphoria-style makeup done all week long. These looks take time, even for the most skilled makeup artists. The attention to detail down to the gemstones on eyelids were some of the best I’ve seen, obviously inspired by Maddy and Cassie.

Another trend that I saw was tons of intricate hairstyles with tons of sparkles and gems in them. Similar to the makeup, these styles take time and each one looked better than the next. From bubble braids to ponytails, to clip-in extensions, this year we really saw it all.

When it came to clothing I saw tons of different styles, but one that stuck out to me was girls wearing clothes with sleeves and gloves. I have seen enough Tiktoks to know that many people are predicting that gloves will be the next big thing, and Mardi Gras solidified that idea for me. There are so many fun ways to style them and I saw them in all kinds of colors, patterns, and textures.

The accessories are never lacking during Mardi Gras, and if you weren’t rocking tons of beads around your neck from the parades, then you were probably wearing some funky sunglasses. I saw some completely bedazzled, ones that light up, and many with accompanying fun colored chains to wear around your neck.

No matter what you were wearing, due to the fact that this was the first Mardi Gras since COVID, everyone was having a ton of fun and excited to see the magic of New Orleans during Mardi Gras.
