Look Cute, Get a Better Workout

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

Have you ever seen those girls at the gym who look like they just took a leisurely stroll through the park even though they just ran 5 miles on the treadmill? How does that even happen? That’s not me, I assure you.

While we can’t all be perfectly dry post workout with our hair still in place, we can wear cute gym clothes. Now, if you’re the girl who wears tee shirts and basketball shorts and doesn’t care, more power to you. There is nothing wrong with that. I wish I could do that. I’m the girl in the Nike outfit and pearls, which makes up for my after-the-treadmill hair and newly smudged makeup. If you’re in the middle of the two extremes but don’t want to spend a fortune, check out the workout apparel sections of Target, Walmart, and even Forever 21. Sports specialty stores like Dick’s, Model’s, and Sports Authority are always options as well. If you’re willing to splurge a little, go for well-known brands like Nike, Reebok, or Under Armour.

I love Nike tempo running shorts and form-fitting sleeveless tops. This way, you can look put together without trying too hard. Bonus: wearing a cute gym outfit can make your workout better. “Putting on a flattering outfit motivates people to actually go to the gym or to exercise outdoors in public,” says performance coach Larina Kase, PsyD, MBA, president of Performance and Success Coaching LLC in Philadelphia. If you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to workout harder. Maybe you’ll even venture into the scary weight room (I know I’m working on it).
