Despite the 80 degree sunshine-filled days we’ve experienced in the last week, it is in fact mid-November. Thanksgiving and the holiday season are on the horizon, which means that the weather will begin to cool down (maybe). If you know me, you know that I am a stickler for seasonal colors. You will not catch me sporting hot pink nails in the middle of November (even if the weather is ridiculously similar to that of NOLA spring) or dark purple in July. My beauty routine changes with the season. Maybe I’m crazy, but I would totally get bored if I couldn’t change it up. Not to mention, there are just some colors that don’t belong during certain times of the year. For fall weather, here are my top three beauty must-have looks.

1. Welcome to the Dark Side

I am obsessed with nail polish, specifically those by Essie and OPI (I haven’t convinced myself that Chanel is worth the price, yet). Fall nail colors evoke the brilliance of the fall landscape, from reds to purples to browns. Recently, I have been attracted to dark blues and greens, which are very trendy at the moment. Dark colors can be intimidating, so for those of you who do not want to sport navy nails, go for neutrals like taupe or bronze. If you’re ready to step out of your comfort zone, try OPI Russian Navy or Essie Lady Godiva.

2. Lady in Red
Fall is the season of bold lips, and red lipstick is huge this year.  It is a universal classic that has yet to go out of style. It looks beautiful with any skin tone and on any shaped lips. Make sure you find the right shade for you, however, as a fair-skinned blonde will choose a different one than someone who has dark hair and dark skin. You can find lipstick at your local drugstore, but if you’re a makeup snob like me, you may want to check out MAC ($14.50) or Estée Lauder ($21) for top-quality products. For more information on the best reds, check out Elle’s Red Alert.

3. New Twist on an Old Look
The smoky eyed look is not new, but this fall, change the eyeshadow shade. Instead of the classic black, grays, and whites, try bronze, purple or shimmery blue-gray, as seen on the he runways of Dolce & Gabbana and Chloe fashion shows. If you do not know how to complete this look, there are various YouTube instructional videos. Also, check out Almay Intense i Color Smoky i Kit, which sell for less than $10. The palette shows you where to put the various colors, and there are different palettes for different eye colors. These can be found at your local drugstore.
