Hey Tulanians! USG elections are coming up and as with any election, it’s important to get to know the candidates. The study body President is responsible for not only being the face of our campus but making sure our voices are heard, all of them. Not an easy job that’s for sure, but with the right person in the position, changes can be made to better our campus as a whole.

I had the pleasure of interviewing one of the candidates, Autumn Gibbons, this past week. Here’s a snapshot into who she is and what she represents.

A funny finance enthusiast

Autumn is a bubbly twenty year old junior at Tulane studying finance and management. She originally hails from Chicago, but recently moved to DC. When asked to describe herself, finance enthusiast and funny were said in the same sentence…I had thought those two qualities were independent of one another but as it turns it out, the can exist together.

Autumn enjoys putting a smile on people’s faces, whether that be through finances or simply a hug and a hello. I find it important to note here that in high school, she was voted and class clown.

Let the students run the campus

Autumn was upfront at mentioning that she does not know everything, and that she will utilize the students on campus who specialize in certain areas. The Student Government runs the campus behind the scenes but Autumn wants to have a transparent USG, where all students get to take part in these crucial decisions. “I can promise a seat at the table for Tulane students.”  Inclusivity, diversity, and equality are some of her main focuses on Campus.

On and off campus experience

Experience wise, Autumn has been a part of USG since her freshman year and on the Executive Board this past year as the Vice President for Finance.  She has interned with James Carville, who she says is the “political voice for the democratic party.” Through this internship, politics became one of Autumn’s passions and something she continues to pursue. In addition to the above mentioned positions, Autumn was at elected President of Women in Business her sophomore year

Well there you have it!
