The Current: For the First Time, Sheen Is Actually Winning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tulane chapter.

The first article I ever wrote for Her Campus highlighted Charlie Sheen’s conduct mishaps, at the time.  Since last March, the star has lived in infamy for his bad behavior.  It was only until recently, last week in fact, that some positive news has stemmed from the star’s actions.  At the Emmy awards, Sheen gave “Two and a Half Men” his blessing for the upcoming season, now starring Ashton Kutcher in his place.  The award show even aired a segment that depicted Sheen and Kutcher talking backstage, in which only favorable comments were shared.  It has been reported that Sheen even came to a settlement with Warner Bros. and it is rumored that the star will receive up to $25 million.

The season premiere of “Two and a Half Men” racked in an astounding 18.7 rating, almost double what last season’s premiere generated.  It is estimated that the first episode had about 27.7 million viewers.  When Sheen was asked about the episode, he deemed it “terrific.”  Comedy Central, only a few days later, debuted the “Roast of Charlie Sheen,” which featured many comedians insulting and jesting with the actor.  While many feared this would push Sheen over the edge, he merely laughed along.  It truly seems like he has cleaned up his act.

While Kutcher may have taken over as Sheen’s role on TV, it seems Sheen has been dubbed the new king of Twitter.  When the website debuted a few years ago, Kutcher helped make the site popular with his tweets and consequently obtained a large number of followers.  Currently, however, between tweets regarding Kutcher’s “Two and a Half Men” episode and Sheen’s “Roast,” Sheen came out on top with about 40,000 tweets regarding the subject.  Kutcher’s primetime performance only produced about a fourth of that.  Despite the ongoing competition the media places between these two actors, they seem to remain civil.  Here’s to hoping they continue on this positive trend!
