Let us take a moment to appreciate the miracle that is trick turning.  College students are hungry: for knowledge, life experiences and mostly… free food.  So, eating a full meal at a dining hall and then grabbing another full meal’s worth of goodies from Hodgdon seems too good to be true. Sure tuition is a little high, buy hey you got free butternut squash soup today!  However, there is definitely a strategy to using your trick turning powers (and they are powers) to their fullest, take a peek at our favorite foods to swipe.

1.     Bars

“Is that all?” If the cashier asks you that, congratulations, you can get more stuff! There’s an abundance of Kind and Cliff  bars at the check- out station for this exact moment. Grab as many as you can!. They make great snacks to keep in your backpack or emergency food drawer.

2.     Mixers/Chasers

After a long week of classes, every Collegiette deserves a chance to let loose.  It’s a lot easier to cheers to the freakin’ weekend if you’ve thought ahead and trick turned some mixers and/or chasers (if you’re 21 of course).  You can find everything from orange juice to Gatorade at Hodgdon.  Take advantage of Hodgdon’s beverage options and make your Thursday night  a lot tastier.

3.     Oatmeal

If you have an early class or just want to sleep in for that 10:30, individual Quaker oatmeal bowls are the perfect quick fix meals.  Just add water, microwave for two minutes and you’ve got a healthy and delicious breakfast.

4.     Cake

Celebrating a friend’s birthday? Get a pal on board and the two of you can combine your dinner swipes to get a birthday cake!  We’re not talking about a  tiny pastry, either; these cakes are the real deal.  Everyone likes feeling special on his or her big day and you won’t even have to spend a penny.

5.     Hot meal for injured friends

If your  Friday night shenanigans turn into a Saturday morning sprain, or another Collegiette is down with any sort of ailment, show you care by trick turning her a hot meal.  Whether you go traditional with soup or deliver something with a kick like nachos, the bedridden will be thankful for the delivery.

6.     Yogurt

We all know yogurt is a healthy, protein-packed choice. It can be breakfast, a snack or a solution for your sweet tooth. Get all the fruity flavor you crave without worrying about the real stuff rotting in your room by packing your fridge with Greek and regular yogurt.

7.     Chips

Nothing says a party like a big bag of chips (ok maybe mixers scream party a little louder but go with it).  Take any dorm hangout to the next level by pulling out a big bag of blue corn tortilla strips.  Chips are a perfect snack for study sessions too (and we won’t tell anyone if you crack open a bag for yourself during a Netflix marathon either.)

8.     Milk

There’s nothing like late night milk and cookies and nothing worse than realizing you’ve smuggled sufficient baked goods from the dining hall but are dry in the dairy department. A half-gallon of milk is a must-have in the fridge for late night indulging.  The same system applies for cereal, so milk is a must.

9.     Coke

If you’re an avid Coca Cola drinker and are offended by the Pepsi-only policy in the dining hall, Hodgdon is your new best friend.  The soda fountains in Hodgdon proudly serve up Coke products as well as Pepsi so it’s ideal for a carbonation craving of any variety.

10. Fruit

Word on the street is dining hall fruit doesn’t measure up to the fruit at Hodgdon.  Hodg is the place for produce, especially if you’re picky about your apples, bananas and pears.  Fruit is a great snack any time!
