Yes, Potterheads, it’s true: there is another Harry Potter book coming out this year.
Can you breathe yet? Me neither. This newest installment is titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and it’s actually a play written by Jack Thorne and based on a story by J.K. Rowling. It’s two parts and centers around our favorite brooding wizard (Harry Potter) as an adult struggling with his job at the Ministry of Magic and his relationship with his son, Albus.
The play is set to open on July 30 (which just so happens to be the birthday of The Boy Who Lived) on the West End in London. I know, that’s so far away. But fear not! The play is going to be published in print and available for purchase after it opens in London this summer.
So many Harry Potter fans have already preordered the play that it has already become an Amazon best-seller. Although it’s unclear which of our favorites will be coming back (Neville, anyone?), we do know that the OG trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione will serve alongside Albus as the main characters.
For those of us who grew up anxiously waiting in Barnes & Noble lines for the latest Harry Potter book, this is almost too good to be true. Maybe this newest book will answer some of our most burning questions. Is Draco still a jerk? Are Ron and Hermione still madly in love? What is life like now that Voldemort is gone? Did Harry put his name in the Goblet of Fire???
One thing’s for sure: we will all be counting down the days until we are reunited with the wizarding world once more.
