The Best Fall Midterm-Break Activities in Boston

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Midterms are finally coming to an end and this means it’s the perfect time to escape from Tisch and explore some fun fall activities in Boston! That’s why we made up a list of some of the best things to do in the area – on a Collegiette’s budget of course!

1.  Farmers Market

Who doesn’t love Farmers Markets? From fresh apples to adorable pumpkins for your dorm room, nothing says “New England Fall” more than a farmers market! And if you’re feeling a little tired of Moe’s, or if you just can’t get enough of mobile food vending, then you should definitely try out the SoWa Open Market in the South End from 10 AM to 4 PM on Sundays.  Not only do they have tables filled with delicious veggies and fruits, but they also have food trucks! Plus, don’t forget on Wednesdays from 11:30-1:30, Tufts has our very own Farmers Market at the Campus Center Lower Patio.

2.  Sports Games

Fall doesn’t just mean pulling out your boots and sweaters, it also means football season! And what better way to stay in the loop with all of your friends’ fantasy football convos than to go see an actual game at Gillette Stadium! Or, if you’re more of a baseball girl, go check out one of the Boston Red Sox post-season games! And of course, we know sports games can be a little pricier, so that’s why the Bruins host Student Nights at TD Garden where you can get a discounted ticket if you show your student ID!

3.  Art Museums

Feeling like you want to get in touch with your artsy side?  Every Thursday, The Institute of Contemporary Art has free admission from 5-9 PM! Not to mention, most museums in Boston give discounts when you show your student I.D.!

4.  Concerts

Art museums are definitely classy and sophisticated, but if you’re more of a performance arts person than a visual arts person, then you should get tickets for one of the many upcoming concerts in Boston! From TD Garden to House of Blues, and more, there are plenty of opportunities to go see concerts like 3OH!3, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

5.  Haunted Boston Ghost Tours

It’s October, and you know what that means –Halloween! Get into the spirit of the holiday –and learn more about Boston –by taking a 90-minute ghost tour of Boston!  Warning: be prepared for things to get a little spooky.

6. Apple Picking

Don’t forget a New England favorite, apple picking!  Even though Boston doesn’t have any orchards along the T, it’s a totally worthwhile trip outside the city to pick some fresh apples for your dorm room. And of course you can’t stop by the orchard without making your way through the corn maze or getting a cup of hot apple cider!

7. Hot Chocolate

As the weather’s getting chillier, the drinks are getting hotter!  If you love hot chocolate as much as we do, you will definitely want to hop on the T and stop by L.A. Burdick Chocolate Shop & Café in Harvard Square.

8.  Franklin County CiderDays

Hot Chocolate is definitely one of our favorites, but it’s never fall without apple cider! On November 2-3rd, Franklin County is hosting its annual Franklin County CiderDays. Step outside Boston for a day and come to this awesome community event complete with cider competitions, cider tastings, a cider-making workshop, and more!
