Back to School Life Hacks: 8 Apps You Need in College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tufts chapter.

Thinking of upgrading your app game in college, Collegiettes? Here are some essential apps that saved my life last year at school!

1. Yik Yak (Free)

A lot of people may not have heard of Yik Yak before college, but it’s basically an anonymous Twitter. Users can post, up vote or down vote, and comment. It keeps you updated with what’s going on around campus, whether it’s a horrible chem test or major parties, and is usually very entertaining to read!

2. Venmo (Free)

Venmo is definitely one of the best inventions of all time and makes life so much easier. The app is linked to your bank account and allows you to send or request money from your friends. It’s really convenient when the restaurant doesn’t accept more than three cards or to split an Uber.

3. Mint (Free)

Mint is one of the best money managing apps I’ve used, and it’s also free! When linked to your bank account, it helps keep track of your spending, and you can set goals to save money. It also breaks down and organizes your spending habits.

4. Uber (Free)

Uber is your best friend at 1 a.m. when you’re at a bar downtown. You request rides with the app, and it keeps track of the drivers, which makes it not only cheaper than taxis, but also safer.

5. 30/30 (Free)

30/30 is a time management app that I found very useful for studying. You basically set a certain amount of time and a goal, and the app forces you to focus on the task at the point. It keeps distractions out of sight and makes working way more efficient.

6. Starbucks (Free)

If soy chai lattes are what you survive on (we don’t blame you), then getting the Starbucks app will help you save a few bucks. Not only can you pay through the app, you also get rewards and sometimes free drinks or refills. Check out the Starbucks website for more details. (https://www.starbucks.com/card/rewards)

7. 1Password ($9.99)

Having too many logins is always troubling, and forgetting passwords is even more annoying. The 1Password app helps you organize your passwords and IDs, so you can get easy access to your e-mail passwords, credit card numbers, and more. There is a required master key to keep your important info secured. Although it’s a bit pricey, it’s the only secured notes managing app you’ll need.

8. GrubHub (Free)

GrubHub is such a dangerous app to have! It’s a food delivery app that features more than 20,000 restaurants. It’s always the best but most unhealthy for late night eats.
