5 Tips to Help Grow Long, Healthy Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Towson chapter.

The Fall/Winter season is the perfect time to grow out your hair. You don’t have to worry about it sticking to your neck when it’s hot out or how much the sun will damage it. Some of us often struggle with growing our hair out. There are plenty of ways to grow out your hair but you have to be consistent and dedicated. Here are 5 tips that will promote healthy hair growth:

1. Get a good trim. I know it sounds a little backwards to cut your hair when you want it to be longer but having damaged hair can ruin future growth. A trim will get rid of any split or dry ends and give you a good start for continuing growth.

2. Wash your hair only as needed. While clean hair is good (and it feels amazing) washing your hair too often can cause it to dry out creating more room for damage. If you absolutely must wash your hair everyday, use a mild shampoo. It will contain fewer chemicals to protect your hair.

3. Eat Greek Yogurt. No I’m not suggesting you use this in your hair but eat it of course. It contains vitamin B5, which help strengthen the hair and follicles.

4. Take vitamins. Supplementary vitamins are a great way to make sure your body is getting what it needs. Vitamins can be nasty in pill form so you won’t be judged if you take gummy vitamins. I take VitaFusion for Women. It contains collagen, which is good for hair health.

5. Always use conditioner. Spending that extra five means conditioning is definitely worth it if you’re looking to get longer hair. Conditioning strengthens hair, prevents matting and tangling and improves hydration. HC Staffer Kaitlyn mentioned she uses coconut oil for hair conditioner before washing it.
