The Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye is a horror/comedy short-form series and narrative podcast. It follows Artemis and Paul (Mary Kate Wiles and Steve Zaragoza), fraternal twins who work at the American Podcasting Network and are on the brink of finding their next big story. The twins end up in Connor Creek, California, a small town supposedly plagued by corporate corruption. With rumours of werewolves and the unconventional and divided locals they interview dropping like flies, it’s up to the twins to decide who to believe and what price they’re willing to sacrifice for the truth.
The show was created by the Tin Can Bros, Corey Lubowich, Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal and is a strong debut for them in the horror comedy genre. It also features many of their Starkid pals including Daren Criss, Dylan Sanders and Lauren Lopez as well as many other names you may know such as Sean Astin, Carlos Valdez and Jon Cozart.
The professionally produced podcast and YouTube episodes showing all the antics behind the scenes flow well together, with one leading directly into the next. I’m excited to see how the different media impact the storytelling moving forward.
Funded on Kickstarter, the show contains 10 YouTube and podcast episodes airing weekly that leave you spooked and laughing at the same time. This show is like 15 minutes of Dustin singing “Never-Ending Story” on Stranger Things; the characters are in mortal peril but you can’t stop laughing. I would definitely recommend watching The Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye to get you into the spooky mood.
