The new season of Stranger Things just started streaming on Netflix on October 27th and people are really excited about it. According to Business Insider, in the first 16 days the first season was streaming on Netflix, 8.2 million people hit the play button. Now a year later, Stranger Things is known to be one of Netflix’s most popular shows, along with Orange Is the New Black and House Of Cards.
During the wait for the second season, the official Stranger Things Facebook account posted teaser posters of the season shadowing famous 1980’s film posters all over social media. Some of the famous movies were Nightmare on Elm Street, Stand by Me, and The Evil Dead. In the picture below, this is one of the posters shadowing the 1986 film, Stand by Me.
Before you watch the new season, here is a short recap about what happened in the first season: The story takes place in a town called Hawkins, Indiana around the year 1983 and focuses on four middle school kids, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will, who are all best friends. One night, Will goes missing and the three others must do their best to find him, along with the police and Will’s mother, Joyce. On their adventure through the local woods, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin meet an unfamiliar face. Having no name, they decide to call her Eleven. She doesn’t talk much, but she can move things with her mind. Throughout the rest of the season, they soon uncover secrets that the government is hiding, even a horrific monster.
In every TV show, there is a big chance that you will find a favorite character. In Stranger Things, the protagonist, Mike Wheeler, is played by Finn Wolfhard. Mike is one of the many main characters who is determined to find his best friend. Nancy Wheeler, played by Natalia Dyer, is Mike’s older sister, who is a protective, straight-A student and cares about her friends. There’s also Steve Harrington, who is played by Joe Keery. Steve is the most popular kid in school and has a crush on Nancy. He may come off as a jerk, but he’s actually really nice. Jonathan Byers, played by Charlie Heaton, is Will’s older brother, and is a very shy teenager who is obsessed with photography.
In the second season, there are a few new characters that are introduced. Some of the new actors include Sean Astin, from Lord of the Rings, who plays a friend of Joyce that recently came back to Hawkins for a job. Up-and-coming actress Sadie Sink also joins the cast as a character named Max. She is a young girl that is introduced to the four boys (Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will).
