It’s 2020.  Almost everyone has a tattoo, whether it be a tiny little bumblebee on their ankle, or a full sleeve dedicated to The Nightmare Before Christmas. Here are some things not to say to a tattooed person.

How much did that cost?

One of the worst things to do is ask how much a tattoo costs.  I don’t come up to you and ask how much those sunglasses cost you.

Did it hurt?

Duh! It’s a needle getting shoved in and out of your skin for hours at a time, yes… it hurt!

What do your parents think?

Honestly, it doesn’t matter what they think.  They didn’t pay for it and it’s not their body.

How will that look in a wedding dress?

Absolutely amazing.

You know that’s forever, right?

I mean, I sure hope so! I didn’t sit in a chair for twelve hours and dish out tons of money for my sleeve to rub off in the ocean one day!

Touching (without consent)

Please.  Do not just touch my tattoos.  There is nothing worse (or creepy) than standing in a line and having someone move your hair to see that tattoos behind your ears or on your shoulders.  Also, please don’t twist my arm to see my sleeve, I will gladly give you a 360 show!

I don’t like it

Wow! Okay… I didn’t know that I got this tattoo for you!

I would never hire you

First off… We are in a grocery store.

Second off… I would never want to work for you.

Tattoos are art.  They are a form of expression.  My tattoos do not define me or my work ethic.

Don’t you want something other than flowers?

Nope! My thigh and arm is covered in flowers… and I wouldn’t change it! One because I can’t and two because I love them!

Flowers are supposed to be colored.  Why is it not?

Because I don’t want them to be!

Nine times out of ten, people will be willing to roll up their sleeve for you to look at their tattoos.  Tattoos are so fun, and personally, I love when people ask to look at them.
