Have trouble calming down? Try taking l-theanine and see how that affects your relaxation.

Ditch the addiction of taking melatonin at night. Try swapping it out with l-theanine, an amino acid mostly found in tea, as well as some mushrooms. This healthier alternative is used to reduce anxiety and stress, increase focus, and improve your immunity.

The introduction of this amino acid into your life can help in two aspects: caffeine crashes and relaxation.

I love my morning coffees… who doesn’t? However, I find when I drink coffee in the morning, I’m super productive for about 2 hours, and then out of nowhere, I feel like I have no energy left. Since we know caffeine can give crashes, why do we rely so much on coffee? Recently, some mornings I’ve been swapping out my morning iced latte with an iced matcha. There’s many benefits of drinking matcha itself, as it is high in antioxidants and it boosts brain function. Matcha also has l-theanine in it. The mixture of natural caffeine and this amino acid creates an alert state of relaxation and enhances your mood, without the same crash you get after drinking coffee. This combination also does wonders for your concentration. L-theanine multiplies the production of alpha waves in the brain, which ultimately encourage relaxation, mental clarity, and a more alert state of mind. Try a matcha next time you think a coffee might help.

There was a period where I couldn’t fall asleep at night. I never could pinpoint it on something specific and I knew I needed to do something about getting horrible sleep. I thought taking melatonin before bed would be a good idea, since it seems like everyone does it, but my mom shut that down. She didn’t want me to become reliant on it each time before bed. Melatonin often can make you feel drowsy when you wake up and not fully rested. We did some research and discovered l-theanine tablets. We found that it helps with anxiety and stress relief. L-theanine works to help relax the mind, and does so without drowsiness. Before night time, I am a huge over-thinker and can never seem to turn my brain off. I’ve noticed when taking an l-theanine tablet, it reduces my anxiety and allows me to rest.

The introduction of l-theanine in your day-to-day might be just what you need to eliminate crashes and allow you to relax at night. There are so many health benefits to the tablet itself, or a matcha drink in the morning. Try incorporating it throughout your day if you feel like you need less crashes, less anxiety, and more focus and relaxation!

Hi! My name is Madeline, I'm a sophomore and I'm a Media Studies and Production Major. I'm from South Jersey and I spent most of the summer down the shore. I am either in complete beach mode or complete city mode. I see myself living in the city at one point of my life and would also love to have a beach house of my own when I’m older. My surroundings and atmosphere that I’m in really reflect my mood and day to day life. I love to hangout with friends, read, do yoga, and I just recently learned how to surf and got into running! :)
